The suspected main accused, identified as Golam Rafi Khan, was detained by Bashundhara Residential Area security personnel within 36 hours of the incident after CCTV footage and images of the motorcycle allegedly used in the incident were analysed.
Security is generally given high priority in the Bashundhara Residential Area, with security personnel deployed across different roads and important locations alongside extensive CCTV surveillance. Any unusual incident is therefore monitored and investigated promptly.
Following the recent snatching incident, security personnel collected CCTV footage from cameras installed around the area and began reviewing the recordings.
Analysis of the footage helped them identify a person suspected of involvement in the incident. They also collected images of the motorcycle allegedly used during the snatching and used the information to trace the suspect.
As part of the investigation, Golam Rafi Khan was detained within 36 hours of the incident. He reportedly lives in a house on Road 10 in Block I of Bashundhara Residential Area and, according to people familiar with the matter, has been living in the area for around 16 years.
Security personnel claimed that after being detained, Rafi admitted his involvement in the snatching incident. He also reportedly claimed that he was a yaba user. Security personnel said a video of his statement had been recorded.
The CCTV footage, motorcycle images and video of the suspect’s statement have been preserved and handed over to law enforcement agencies for further investigation, according to the concerned authorities.
Rafi was later handed over to police for legal action. Police are expected to take the necessary legal measures in connection with the incident.
The swift identification and detention of the suspect within 36 hours has been attributed to the active surveillance and prompt response of the security personnel in the Bashundhara Residential Area.
