Empowerment in Rural Bangladesh: Bashundhara Foundation Distributes BDT 30 Lakh Interest-Free Loans to 168 Women

In a continued effort to foster economic self-reliance among underprivileged women in rural Bangladesh, the Bashundhara Foundation—the philanthropic arm of the country's leading industrial conglomerate Bashundhara Group—distributed BDT 30 lakh in interest-free, collateral-free loans to 168 marginalized women in Bancharampur, Brahmanbaria. Over the past two decades, this initiative has provided crucial financial backing to rural families, keeping them clear of high-interest debt tras

The disbursement took place during the foundation's 85th loan distribution ceremony held on the Akanagar Madrasa premises in Bancharampur. Bashundhara Group Advisor Moynal Hossain Chowdhury and Bashundhara Foundation Chief Executive Officer M. Nasimul Hye attended the event as chief guests. Mod. Chanmia Sarkar moderated the session, which was also attended by Foundation Deputy General Manager Maimun Kabir, Deputy Manager Mosharraf Hossain, and local dignitaries.

Addressing the recipients, Bashundhara Foundation CEO M. Nasimul Hye urged the women to utilize the capital productively. "Liberated from high-interest microfinance burdens, underprivileged women are now dreaming of standing on their own feet. This shift is bringing positive transformations to the rural economy. I encourage every borrower to invest these funds strictly into honest, income-generating ventures," Hye said.

Bashundhara Group Advisor Moynal Hossain Chowdhury highlighted the broader social impact of the initiative. "By offering completely interest-free and service-charge-free loans, Bashundhara Group has established a unique precedent in corporate social responsibility. Beyond financial aid, the group remains committed to community welfare through educational scholarships, free healthcare drives, vocational training, and sewing machine distributions," Chowdhury noted.

Beneficiaries from Bancharampur and Nabinagar upazilas expressed optimism about their new ventures. Shilpi Akhtar from Thollakandi village plans to invest the funds into family-run enterprise initiatives, while Morjina Akhtar of Barail village will use her loan to support her husband's agricultural production. Gita Rani of Akanagar village, a returning beneficiary, plans to purchase a dairy cow to secure a steady household income.
