Dilip Kumar Agarwala Arrested in Banani Over Gold and Diamond Smuggling Case

The Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested Dilip Kumar Agarwala, Managing Director of Diamond World, from the capital’s Banani area.

A special DB team detained him from a building in Banani on the evening of October 19, 2026. Law enforcement authorities confirmed that the arrest was executed following a requisition letter issued by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Police.

According to sources in law enforcement, preliminary evidence has been found linking Agarwala to the illegal smuggling of gold and diamonds, as well as laundering vast sums of money abroad. CID records indicate that approximately BDT 678 crore was laundered out of the country under the guise of illicitly importing gold and diamonds while evading government revenues.

The CID had previously filed a case addressing these specific money laundering charges. Based on CID's requisition, DB police conducted the operation in Banani to detain him, subsequently recording his formal arrest under the case.

At the time of filing this report, Agarwala was being interrogated at the DB office. DB sources confirmed that procedures are underway to hand him over to the CID and produce him before the court to seek a remand.
