Bashundhara Group Empowers 100 Women with Sewing Machines Across Mymensingh and Netrokona

After losing her husband, Ruma single-handedly managed her family while struggling for 12 years to educate her two children. Recently, severe financial distress threatened to cut her son’s education short. At this critical juncture, Bashundhara Shuvosangho stepped in to offer a lifeline. Following a free three-month tailoring training program, Ruma received a brand-new sewing machine, reigniting her hope to build a stable income and secure her children's future.

Ruma is one of 100 underprivileged women across Mymensingh and Netrokona districts who have been given a pathway toward financial independence. Organized by Bashundhara Shuvosangho, the initiative selected 20 women each from Nandail and Gauripur upazilas in Mymensingh, and Barhatta, Sadar, and Durgapur upazilas in Netrokona. The program provided rigorous three-month tailoring instruction followed by the distribution of sewing machines to generate self-employment and establish long-term economic stability.

The concluding ceremony of the program was held recently at the Comrade Moni Singh Smriti Museum Auditorium in Durgapur, Netrokona. Renowned author, Advisor to Bashundhara Group, and Head of Bashundhara Shuvosangho, Imdadul Haq Milan, attended as the chief guest.

Chaired by Durgapur Upazila Shuvosangho President Md. Jamal Talukder and moderated by Advisor Md. Masum Billah, the event featured several distinguished special guests, including:

  • Ahmed Sadat, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Durgapur
  • Khondakar Shaker Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge (OC), Durgapur Police Station
  • Tobarak Hossain, President, Durgapur Press Club
  • Mohammad Nasir Uddin
