The commitment was highlighted during a courtesy meeting between ABG Chairman Sayem Sobhan Anvir and DNCC Administrator Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton on Monday (August 17) at the DNCC office in Gulshan. The two leaders discussed various issues of mutual interest, including urban development and public services.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, the DNCC Administrator noted, "Bashundhara is a model residential area. ABG is one of the most reputable business groups in the country and a key stakeholder for DNCC. The ABG Chairman visited the DNCC office upon our invitation."
He emphasized that sustainable urban development requires the active participation of all stakeholders. "We discussed several matters of public interest and mutual concern with the ABG Chairman. Building a beautiful city requires coordinated engagement, and we need everyone's support. As a major business group, Anvir Bashundhara Group has assured us of its cooperation in urban development. Likewise, the city corporation will extend all possible support in the public interest," Milton stated.
Anti-Dengue Initiatives and Larviciding Drives
Highlighting DNCC's ongoing efforts to control the dengue situation in the capital, the Administrator stated that advance preparations had been taken, and a zero-tolerance policy is being enforced to destroy Aedes mosquito larvae.
He informed that strict monitoring is underway across DNCC's 10 zones through a dedicated dengue prevention task force, alongside regular mobile court drives to prevent mosquito breeding.
Surprise drives are also being conducted across government offices, institutions, and various premises to detect Aedes larvae. Where larvae are found, mobile courts are taking legal action and issuing strict warnings to the authorities concerned.
Stressing the importance of public awareness in controlling mosquito breeding within residential areas, the DNCC Administrator remarked that the city corporation cannot enter private homes to eliminate mosquitoes. Therefore, citizens must keep their homes and surrounding premises clean. Oversight has also been stepped up for public offices and commercial establishments.
Milton added that regular larviciding and fogging operations are continuing according to DNCC's schedule, keeping the mosquito situation largely under control compared to previous periods. However, once the rainy season subsides, targeted mosquito control operations will be launched across identified hotspots.
