Yasha Sobhan honoured with Mother Teresa International Peace Award 2026

Yasha Sobhan, Vice Chairman of Safwan Bashundhara Global (SBG), Director of Bashundhara Group and Chairman of the Bashundhara Special Children Foundation, has received the Mother Teresa International Peace Award 2026 in recognition of her long-standing work to improve the lives of children with special needs and promote autism awareness.

She received the award in the “Outstanding Contribution to Autism” category at a ceremony organised by the SAARC Cultural Forum at a renowned hotel in Dhaka on Saturday (August 29).

The award recognises Yasha Sobhan’s continued efforts, as chairman of the Bashundhara Special Children Foundation, in education, care and overall development of children with special needs. Her involvement in raising awareness about autism and creating opportunities for inclusion, support and development for children with special needs was also highlighted.

The Bashundhara Special Children Foundation, established in 2017, currently works with more than 600 children with special needs. Alongside education and care, the foundation provides various programmes aimed at their overall development, including education, therapy, skills development and opportunities to become more independent according to their individual needs and abilities.

As chairman of the foundation, Yasha Sobhan has remained actively involved in these initiatives.

Her social engagement also extends beyond children with special needs. She is associated with organisations working for thalassemia patients and supports various initiatives aimed at improving the wellbeing of people affected by the disease.

She has also been involved in interest-free microfinance initiatives aimed at strengthening the financial capacity of disadvantaged individuals and families and creating livelihood opportunities.

Alongside her social initiatives, Yasha Sobhan has played a role in expanding and diversifying businesses under the leadership of Safwan Bashundhara Global, contributing to the creation of new employment opportunities.

The Mother Teresa International Peace Award 2026 marks a significant recognition of her contribution to autism and the welfare of children with special needs. It also highlights the ongoing work of the Bashundhara Special Children Foundation in education, care, therapy, skills development, and creating opportunities for children with special needs to become more self-reliant.

Her initiatives through SBG and the Bashundhara Special Children Foundation reflect a broader commitment to building a more supportive and inclusive society for children with special needs and disadvantaged communities.
