Clouds of Crisis Clear, Bashundhara Kings Ready to Rule the Field

Clouds of Crisis Clear, Bashundhara Kings Ready to Rule the Field

The clouds of uncertainty have finally cleared for Abahani Limited, Bashundhara Kings and Youngmen’s Fakirerpool Club, as FIFA lifted its temporary sanctions after the clubs settled their outstanding dues and cleared the initial hurdle in the licensing process.

The development has come as a major relief for the country’s football community.

It was difficult to imagine the 2026–27 league season without Bashundhara Kings and Abahani. Since the professional league was launched in 2007, both clubs have won the title six times each, underlining their dominance and influence in domestic football.

With the off-field uncertainty now easing, clubs have shifted their focus to squad building.

Mohammedan Sporting Club were among the early movers, putting together their squad with confidence and securing a foreign head coach. Abahani, meanwhile, made headlines by signing Nigerian World Cup forward Michael Babatunde.

With 13 teams set to take part in the upcoming league, discussions are already intensifying over the strength of the squads. The prospect of as many as seven teams being genuine title contenders could make the new season one of the most competitive in recent years.

Since their debut in the 2018–19 season, Bashundhara Kings have not only won five consecutive league titles but have also transformed the culture of football management in Bangladesh.

No other club in the country’s football history has won so many league titles consecutively. Including their women’s team, the club has now accumulated 20 trophies—a remarkable achievement.

Their professionalism, accountability and strong institutional structure have also helped the club establish a special place in the hearts of a new generation of football fans.

Despite facing a series of challenges and uncertainties in recent times, the Kings’ board remained confident about the club’s future.

Under the leadership of president Mohammad Imrul Hasan and with continued support from Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, the club has managed to recover from the difficult period and regain its momentum.

Their contribution goes beyond running a football club.

Through Bashundhara Sports City, the group has invested in massive sports infrastructure worth thousands of crores of taka, setting what many consider an unprecedented example in South Asia.

Now, Bashundhara Kings have their eyes firmly set on winning every available trophy in the upcoming season.

Although several national team players have departed, the return of Robson Robinho, along with a 35-member squad featuring experienced local and foreign players, has given the club a significant boost in confidence.

The team has already begun regular training under an experienced local coaching panel.

The challenge now is to translate that preparation into performances on the pitch.

With the uncertainty behind them, Bashundhara Kings are ready to return to the battlefield—determined to prove their strength once again and raise the flag of their reputation and legacy even higher.
